For example, those with a provisional license who work in the educational setting believe they should be working in the court system. This is definitely malpractice. Or those with a provisional license think they are qualified for medical interpreting.
If those with a provisional license are working with a mentor and are accountable that is a different story. But accepting work as if you have national certification is a sham and should not be encouraged.
If you have not passed the NIC, you should be developing a professional development plan to work your way towards your goal with a mentor or a system of accountability. Just taking assignments without training is malpractice.
I am encouraging all professional interpeters to speak out about this issue.
Remind those you know with a provisional license to take more training and of course continue their studies , especially a four year degree.
